launching your website
Website launch is exciting stuff! Making a website for your business is an exciting adventure of crafting your own virtual storefront and broadcasting your passions to the world.
From choosing brand colors, fonts and images to writing compelling sales page copy—designing a website is a labor of love.
And it’s a necessary labor of love to build your online presence to attract customers, and grow your business!
If you’ve been working on creating a website for your business and you’re almost ready to share it with customers—hold on! A final check to make sure you didn’t miss anything will make your launch even more epic.
Here are five things you need to check to guarantee your website is perfect and ready for launch.
#1: Check Your Website’s Functionality and Responsiveness
Nothing is worse than a slow or unresponsive website.
Test your website for browser and mobile compatibility to see if it works and looks good on multiple devices. Check your website’s speed performance when loading each page, too.
Click on each video and link on your website to ensure they aren’t broken and lead to the right destination. You can use a variety of free plugins to run this check for you, like WordPress’s Broken Link Checker.
#2: Prepare Your Website for Google Analytics
Your website deserves recognition as you spent your time and money to bring it to life.
But if your website isn’t primed for Google Analytics, you won’t be able to garner much traffic!
Research your industry’s SEO keywords, as well as do market research to learn what specific language is best for your target audience. Check that your web copy and content utilizes these keywords!
I recommend using an SEO plugin like Yoast to help you optimize your website for search engines like Google. This way more people can find you as you grow, and you can track your website’s performance.
#3: Proofread and Spell-Check Everything
We all make mistakes, but typos can still be pretty embarrassing.
Run a full grammar spell-check and proofread on your website to make sure your web copy reads as professional as possible.
Don’t get caught up in certain technicalities if you are using language and spelling that is brand specific and highlights your unique personality.
As long as your web copy reads as polished and natural, you’re good to go!
#4: Queue Extra Content
You may already have some content stocked up, like blog posts and email sequences. However, I encourage you to prepare more than what you think you need because content is queen!
While it definitely doesn’t hurt to have extra content to use if you wind up in a pinch, the goal is to keep the momentum rolling after your website launches with new and fresh content.
This keeps readers coming back for more and it satisfies Google Analytics to recognize your website as an up-to-date and informative site—which improves your ranking and grows your traffic!
#5: Backup Your Website
After all the hard work you’ve done to build your website for your business, the final task on your checklist is to create a backup plan.
The plugin I use is Updraft Plus, which makes life pretty easy when it comes to backing up your work. More on that in this post.
That way, you can have the peace of mind of being able to restore your website back to normal without fear of losing anything!
